Ponte Romana de Trajano

A symbol of Aquae Flaviae, the Roman bridge crosses the Tâmega and preserves the celebrated Peoples’ Column.

History

Built between the late 1st and early 2nd centuries to serve the Roman road through Aquae Flaviae, the bridge remains an urban axis over the Tâmega. The Peoples’ Column preserves an inscription central to understanding the region’s communities.
